      Choke line is a high-pressure pipe leading from an outlet on the BOP stack to the backpressure choke and associated manifold. During well-control operations, the fluid under pressure in the wellbore flows out of the well through the choke line to the choke, reducing the fluid pressure to atmospheric pressure. In floating offshore operations, the choke and kill lines exit the subsea BOP stack and run outside the drilling riser to the surface. The volumetric and frictional effects of these extended choke and kill lines must be considered to control the well correctly.

Трубопровод высокого давления, идущий от выпускного патрубка противовыбросового привентора к дросселю противодавления и связанному с ним коллектору. При этом давление нефтепродукта снижается до атмосферного.

      Choke manifold is a set of high-pressure valves and associated piping that usually includes at least two adjustable chokes arranged so that one can be isolated and taken out of service for repair and refurbishment. At the same time, the well flow is directed through the other one. A manifold assembly incorporating chokes, valves, and pressure sensors is used to control flowback or treatment fluids.

      Дроссельный коллектор – это набор клапанов высокого давления и связанных с ними трубопроводов. В устройство входят два регулируемых дросселя, один из них можно изолировать и вывести из эксплуатации для ремонта и восстановления. При этом поток скважины направляется через другой дроссель.

      CHOPS is the acronym for cold heavy oil production with sand.

      Christmas tree is the set of valves, spools, and fittings connected to the top of a well to direct and control the flow of formation fluids from the well. Christmas trees are available in a wide range of sizes and configurations, such as low- or high-pressure capacity and single- or multiple-completion capacity.

      Chromatography is a technique for sample analysis used for the separation and identification of volatile compounds of liquid mixtures and gases. They comprise an injection system to add the sample, a chromatography column to allow the components to separate, and a detector to sense when a component is exiting the system.

      Хроматография – это метод разделения и анализа смесей веществ, а также изучения физико-химических свойств веществ. С помощью хроматографического метода, например, можно выявить в нефти наличие летучих хлорорганических соединений или содержание меркаптанов, сероводорода.

      Circulation means pumping fluid through the whole active fluid system, including the borehole and all the surface tanks that constitute the primary system.

      Circulation loss is the loss of drilling fluid to a formation and is usually caused when the hydrostatic head pressure of the column of the drilling fluid exceeds the formation pressure.

      Clear brine is a water-based solution of inorganic salts used as a well-control fluid during the completion and workover phases of well operations. Brines are solids-free, containing no particles that might plug or damage a producing formation. More complex brine systems may contain zinc, bromide, or iodine salts. This brine is generally corrosive and costly.
