      Borehole (synonyms: wellbore).       The wellbore itself, including the open hole or uncased portion of the well. A borehole may refer to the inside diameter of the wellbore wall, the rock face that bounds the drilled hole.

      Ствол скважины – пространство в массиве горных пород, ограниченное контурами скважины, т. е. ее устьем, стенками и забоем.

      Bottomhole injection pressure (BHIP) – the downhole pressure at which a treatment fluid can be injected into a zone of interest. The bottomhole injection pressure is typically calculated by adding the hydrostatic pressure of the fluid column to the surface pump pressure measured during an injection test.

      Забойное давление закачки – это забойное давление, при котором обрабатывающая жидкость может быть закачана в интересующую зону. Забойное давление закачки обычно рассчитывается путем добавления гидростатического давления столба жидкости к давлению насоса на поверхности, измеренному во время испытания закачки.

      Bottomhole pressure (BHP) – the pressure, usually measured in pounds per square inch (psi), at the bottom of the hole.

      Bracket is a plate that connects rigidly two or more structural elements, such as a deck beam to the frame or bulkhead stiffener to the deck, usually of triangular shape.

      Breakdown pressure is the pressure at which the rock matrix of an exposed formation fractures and allows fluid to be injected. Hydraulic fracturing operations are conducted above the breakdown pressure, while matrix stimulation treatments are performed with the treatment pressure safely below the breakdown pressure.

Технология осуществления гидравлического разрыва пласта при добыче нефти включает в себя закачку в скважину с помощью мощных насосных станций жидкости разрыва (гель, в некоторых случаях вода, либо кислота) при давлениях выше давления разрыва нефтеносного пласта.

      Breakers are used to decrease fluid viscosity. Breakers or gel breakers are specialized chemicals that 'break' the polymers and crosslinkers in the frac fluid, reducing the fluid viscosity and allowing easier cleanup after the treatment.

      Разжижитель геля гидроразрыва разрушает полимерный гель в конце операции по гидроразрву или кислотной обработки пласта, облегчает вымывание и очистку жидкости разрыва.

      Breakout tongs are large-capacity self-locking wrenches that grip drill string components and apply torque. The breakout tongs are the active tongs during breakout operations. A similar set of tongs is tied off to a deadline anchor during breakout operations to provide backup to the connection, unlike when a plumber uses two pipe wrenches in an opposing manner to tighten or loosen water pipes, except that breakout tongs are much more significant.

      Breather; oil breather tanks, part of the accessory case, are mounted near the top of the engine to vent this heavy, rising air. When the engine heats up, the oil temperature rises to dangerously high levels, hot enough for small amounts to vaporize into the air.

      Brine is water containing salts in solution, such as sodium, calcium, or bromides. Brine is commonly produced along with oil. The disposal of oilfield brine is usually accomplished by underground injection into saltwater-saturated formations or by evaporation in surface pits.

      Brownian motion – the motion of atoms and molecules in fluids is due to the temperature of the fluid. The motion appears to be random but is described by the relationships derived by Brown.

      BS&W – abbriviation for basic sediment and water; water and other contaminants present in crude oil.
