Sy raak waarnemings en skerp insig bied ’n unieke blik op die alledaagse lewe in die kampe, maar ook op die onderstrominge soos die konflik tussen pro-Britse Boere en die onversetlikes. Tussendeur sorg Charles se besondere humorsin vir talle kostelike beskrywings.
