Mientras hay muchas pruebas en curso, no hay evidencia de medicamentos modificadores de la enfermedad en la actualidad. Los médicos deben dirigir de manera acuciosa el tratamiento de las enfermedades de base y las causas reversibles. El mejor entendimiento en la fisiopatología permitirá en el futuro diseñar estrategias de manejo que beneficien este gran grupo de pacientes.
