Sunsets of Tulum

Mr Raymond Avery Bartlett

Reed Haflinger and his aloof wife take an impromptu trip to Mexico's Riviera Maya, but it's not the reconnection Reed was hoping for. When she departs early for home, he stays at the resort, lost in what remains of a vacation he feels he deserves. But when a brief interaction with a beautiful female traveler offers a clue as to how to meet her again, Reed must decide whether to venture out of his comfort zone in search of her, or accept that he will always let life pass him by. In this mesmerizing debut novel, travel writer Ray Bartlett brings us a dark, complex love story as lush, beautiful, and unflinching as the landscape of Tulum itself, a place that you – just like Bartlett's unforgettable characters – will not want to leave.

Dear Jeril... Love, Dad

Wayne P. Anderson

As a Father's Day gift Wayne Anderson's oldest daughter Jerilyn, often called Jeril, presented him with a fat three-hole notebook containing the letters and stories he had written her from the time she was twenty until she was thirty-eight—from 1977 to 1995.

It was one of his dearest Father's Day gifts ever. And it was an especially appropriate gift as she had been an avid reader since childhood and was now a creative librarian who continued to cherish the written word.

Anderson was amazed at how much detail there was in the letters about his adventures around the world. He has decided to share the parts of these letters that other travelers, active or armchair, might enjoy in this Venture Bound Book.

GastroNaughties' Gallivant - Sipping'n Snacking California Central Coast and Las Vegas

BuzzzzOff

Sipping'n Snacking California Central Coast and Las Vegas

When planning a visit to our family in the USA, we decided initially to parachute into California and Las Vegas for some sipping and snacking and catching up with old friends. After all, flying to the east coast of the USA from our home requires several, somewhat grueling flights and layovers and more than a day of travel if you are inclined to do so in one go. Well, we were in no hurry, and we detest hibernating in airplanes and airports for more than 36 hours…actually, we simply consider them a necessary evil.

Thus, we sat down more than three months in advance to plan our trip to California and Las Vegas. Searching, clicking, Google-mapping and, generally, learning that California is one very HUGE state! It was fun, educational and offered ample justification to sip good wine during the day as well as evening.

We started in San Francisco, worked our way south along US1 through the Central Coast (Big Sur, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara) and thereafter across the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas....sipping 'n snacking along the way.

"GastoNaughties' Gallivant – Sipping'n Snacking – California Central Coast and Las Vegas" is not our first road trip. Trust us, the first trip will include a lot more "Ooops" and "Do's and Don't". We like to learn by experience! It is, however, our shortest trip. Hence, our first effort to publish together all our notes and photos. We are working on publishing GastroNaughties' Gallivant for other destinations… Stay tuned to this Bat Channel.

Hope you have as much fun reading this book as we had "gallivanting".

Until next time…Bon Vivant!

Warning: Our comments are based on our personal opinions, are not subject to the influence of others and, well, we occasionally can be brutally honest…for which we do not apologize.

Brightest of Silver Linings: Climbing Carstensz Pyramid In Papua At Age 65

Carol Masheter

Few people have heard of Carstensz Pyramid, a sharp fin of limestone 16,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by mountainous jungle in Papua, a part of the world wracked by political and tribal violence, where kidnappings of climbers still occur. Why bother to climb such a troublesome, little-known peak? This book describes Carol Masheter's decision to climb Carstensz Pyramid at age 65, how she prepared for and experienced the strenuous hike through the jungle, the steep climb up a limestone wall of 2,000 feet, the hand-over-hand Tyrolean traverse, the challenges, joys, and lessons learned on the "other side of nowhere."
