Kung Fu Toby

H. H. T. Osenger

Mika Keraneni esikromaani Varastatud oran˛ jalgratas (2008) põhjal esietendus 2010. aasta detsembris Eesti Draamateatris samanimeline lasteetendus. Autori teine romaan Peidetud hõbedane aardelaegas pälvis Kultuurkapitali 2009. aasta preemia. Mõlemad raamatud on tõlgitud ka soome keelde. Loeb Piret Krumm.

Textbook Policies in Asia

Andy Smart

This comparative study provides an overview of the textbook production chain, starting with its origins in the curriculum, and suggests ways in which policymakers can make improvements at every point in the chain. With evidence from a range of countries, mainly in Asia, the study is intended as a resource for policymakers and as a reference and benchmark for education systems. Although the study focuses on textbooks, which are the priority for governments and teachers and represent the greatest item of expenditure on teaching and learning materials, it also includes other teaching and learning materials including digital resources.

Indonesia

The book focuses on Indonesia's most pressing labor market challenges and associated policy options to achieve higher and more inclusive economic growth. The challenges consist of creating jobs for and the skills in a youthful and increasingly better educated workforce, and raising the productivity of less-educated workers to meet the demands of the digital age. The book deals with a range of interrelated topics–the changing supply and demand for labor in relation to the shift of workers out of agriculture; urbanization and the growth of megacities; raising the quality of schooling for new jobs in the digital economy; and labor market policies to improve both labor standards and productivity.

Transitions to K–12 Education Systems

Jouko Sarvi

With more than 140 countries currently offering or in transition to a kindergarten through grade 12 (K–12) school education system, this desk study explored the experiences of four countries–Mongolia, Philippines, Poland, and Turkey–and one Canadian province, Ontario, in preparing and implementing K–12 systems. Lessons learned from the five diverse jurisdictions are: (i) align the education system with macro policies, (ii) view transition to K–12 as part of a package of reforms, (iii) prioritize improving student learning, (iv) consider teacher development as critical, (v) avoid high-stakes examinations, and (vi) focus on higher order curriculum and assessments.

Integrated Information and Communication Technology Strategies for Competitive Higher Education in Asia and the Pacific

Jouko Sarvi

Early adoption of information and communication technology can allow developing countries in Asia and the Pacific to move from labor-intensive, natural resources-based to knowledge-based economies. Higher education institutions must adopt an institution-wide, holistic information and communication technology (ICT) strategy, not a project-based approach, to avoid redundancies, obsolescence, and large maintenance costs. A coordinated top-down plus bottom-up intervention is best, with three areas requiring attention: infrastructure, application software, and staff development. ICT investments in higher education institutions in support of teaching, research, and community engagement are essential for developing and retaining competitive advantage in the knowledge economy.
