La senda del Ópalo

Este volumen reúne una muestra de la amplia producción literaria del novelista y dramaturgo Ramón de la Serna y Espina: el drama Boves; el cuento futurista Puente Rojo; la novela psicológica Chao, y catorce artículos, casi todos publicados en el diario chileno El Mercurio, aunque cinco de ellos aún permanecían inéditos. Cierra el volumen varias de las notas encontradas en el archivo del escritor que atestiguan la importante presencia en su vida de su mujer, Eva Cargher, entre las que se encuentra un poema a ella dedicado.Boves es la primera de las tres obras teatrales que Ramón de la Serna y Espina escribió en Chile y está protagonizada por el militar asturiano José Tomás Boves, quien se opuso a Simón Bolívar durante la guerra de independencia venezolana.Puente Rojo es un cuento largo, o bien una novela corta. Además de no mencionarlo nunca, Ramón de la Serna y Espina no envió este cuento a ninguna editorial. El protagonista, Juan Tagle, viaja a Moldavia para sacar adelante un proyecto de investigación sobre los Aschkenassin; es decir, los judíos alemanes.Chao es la segunda novela escrita por Ramón de la Serna y Espina, publicada en 1933. Aunque aparente ser una novela policíaca es, insertándose plenamente en su tiempo, una novela intelectual. Su protagonista es un bandido, José Chao, que roba la diadema de una dama argentina, quien, para recuperarla, acude a un detective bastante notorio, Justo Peralta.La selección de los textos incluidos en el libro y la redacción del estudio introductorio estuvo a cargo de la investigadora Daniela Agrillo, especialista en la figura de este gran intelectual del siglo xx.
