Blinde liefde
Karla bedank haar werk by ’n trattoria op Stellenbosch om as sjef en bemarker op ’n gasteplaas naby Malmesbury te gaan werk. Eers nadat sy op die plaas aangekom het, hoor sy dat daar kort tevore ’n moord gepleeg is en dat die uiters aantreklike nuwe eienaar, Hugo Joubert, die hoofverdagte is. Nogtans is sy dadelik baie sterk aangetrokke tot hom.
Tot haar skok is daar ook groot finansiële probleme op die plaas en Karla moet bitter hard werk om van die gastehuis ’n sukses te maak. Intussen word haar innerlike woelinge daagliks meer. Is Hugo sy broer se moordenaar? Wat behels die eienaardige verhouding tussen hom en die beeldskone Natalie van die buurplaas? En kan Karla regtig daarop reken dat daar nie ná al die jare ook in Londen, waar hy eintlik bly, ’n meisie op Hugo wag nie?
Die moord, die spoke in die gastehuis, haar eksman en Natalie maak Karla se lewe daagliks ál moeiliker. Dit is asof haar lyf een taal praat en haar verstand ’n ander. Is dit dalk ’n geval van blinde liefde?
Hermien en die hartedief
Hermien en Jamie is nét vriende. As studente was hulle woonstelmaats, en ja, jare gelede was daar daardie enkele insident . . . Maar wanneer Jamie al wéér in haar woonstel kom asiel soek nadat hy die soveelste keer van ’n vrou weggehardloop het, is Hermien baie seker sy soek hom nie naby haar nie. Daar’s ma’s en pa’s, oumas en oupas, weduwees en wewenaars, ougetroudes, geskeides, alleenlopers. Van hulle is bekend, ander minder bekend. Bloots is lyfliteratuur uit die boonste rakke.

Authorship of this salacious literary classic has been attributed to either of two men: William Simpson Potter, author of two books of letters on the Prince of Wales, or Edward Sellon, who produced other erotic novels. The protagonist of «The Romance of Lust», Charlie Roberts, exudes an insatiable sexual appetite, to which he was initiated by early sexual encounters with siblings, governesses, and later with various friends. It was originally published in four volumes during the years 1873-1876. Due to the explicit nature of the language and nature of the novel, which often describes in graphic detail quite unrealistic sexual positions and scenarios, it was banned in the United States for some time. Scenes of various sexual activities shock even today's readers in what has become known as the quintessential erotic Victorian novel, earning the virile young Charlie Roberts the designation of hero of the Victorian sexual underground.
