If you thought that the app market was just about games and big brands, think again. Businesses of every size in every sector have built their own apps and are reaping real commercial rewards. Because of the relatively low cost of entering the app market, smaller enterprises can level the playing field, often outstripping their larger competitors simply because they have developed and marketed an app that delivers a service that their consumers are looking for. This book isn't about how apps can help you run your business more efficiently, or an in-depth tutorial about how to create an app for your enterprise. Instead, it provides a unique introduction and overview of the possibilities for any small or growing business. It's a focused guide about the business of apps for those whose time is money. Connecting with customers over their mobile phones and tablets allows a more intimate and ultimately more lucrative link between businesses and consumers to be established. With this latest book in the popular Business Bites series, you can help your business take the first steps into an exciting and growing marketplace.
Motivating Mum (www.motivatingmum.co.uk) is a website that offers support and advice to mums who are running businesses and those who are thinking of starting up. In March 2011, Motivating Mum organised a charity mentoring festival called Mummy Mentoring Month, in association with International Women's Day. Successful business women were encouraged to donate their time and their professional services, and these services were sold to mums who were starting up, with all proceeds going to charity. As part of this festival, we asked business women in the UK and Australia to send in blogs, which were published one a day during the month of March. I kept the scope very wide – blog about anything that would give support and advice to mums. The results were amazing – blogs written by professional coaches and very successful businesswomen, and blogs written by people who are just starting out. Some are sharing their professional advice in various different disciplines – some are just sharing their personal journeys, successes and failures. Taken as a whole I think these blogs provide a great resource of really good advice for mums in business, and that is why I decided to put them together into an eBook that people can dip into for inspiration on an ongoing basis. The charity that we supported for Mummy Mentoring Month in the UK is Nema (www.nemafoundation.org) which helps women in rural Mozambique with aid, healthcare and education, so that they can support their communities and families. So in order to continue the spirit of Mummy Mentoring Month and International Women's Day, I am donating 20% of my royalties from the sale of this book to Nema. I hope that you will be inspired and educated by the blogs in this book. If you are please visit www.motivatingmum.co.uk (or www.motivatingmum.com in Australia) where the support, advice and inspiration is ongoing.
International trade has moved into a new phase. Gone are the days when years of effort were required in the domestic market before going global. You can now start a company on Monday and be trading with the world by Wednesday. The web has made this perfectly possible and faced with a sluggish UK market there's never been a better time to leverage technology and look overseas; after all, a connection to the internet is a connection to over 1 billion potential customers. Our politicians are encouraging it and technology is in place to enable it, yet small business owners are resisting the international trade opportunity for fear of perceived language, currency, cultural and business barriers. In this book, bestselling author Emma Jones, puts paid to these perceptions and shows you don't need big budgets or to be a big business to be a globally successful one. She offers a route map that will have you trading across the globe and illustrates how it can be done, with stories from 20 successful exporters. Whether you're selling tangibles or services, if you've considered exporting but didn't know where to start or you're making international sales and want to grow further, this is the book for you. Consider it your guide as you embark on a journey of international deals and discovery. www.goglobalguide.com

Scales on War is a collection of ideas, concepts and observations about contemporary war taken from over 30 years of research, writing and personal experience by retired Major General Bob Scales. The book melds Scales’ unique style of writing that includes contemporary military history, current events and his philosophy of ground warfare to create a very personal and expansive view of where Americn defense policies are heading in the future. The book is a collection. Each chapter addresses distinct topics that embrace tactical ground warfare, future gazing, the draft and the role of women in the infantry. His uniting thesis is that throughout its history the United States has favored a technological approach to fighting its wars and has neglected its ground forces. America’s enemies have learned though the experience of battle how to defeat American technology. The consequences of a learning and adaptive enemy has been a continuous string of battlefield defeats.Scales argues that only a resurgent land force of Army and Marine small units will restore America’s fighting competence.
