Edgar Rice Burroughs' «Tarzan of the Apes» is a novel first published in 1912 and is also the first in a series of books about the title character Tarzan, whose real name is John Clayton. Clayton is the main character of this novel, who was born in the western coastal jungles of equatorial Africa. When his parents died, John was adopted as an infant by the she-ape Kala and then named «Tarzan», which means 'White Skin' in the ape language.
