    Prantsuse kirjaniku Maurice Leblanci (1864–1941) kriminaalromaanide kangelane, härrasmees ja meistervaras Arsène Lupin on prantsuskeelsetes maades sama populaarne kui Sherlock Holmes või Hercule Poirot inglise kultuuriruumis. Leblanc sündis 1864. aastal Normandia ajaloolises pealinnas Rouenis Itaaliast pärit perekonnas. Ilma ühegi ideeta ja kurjategijatest midagi teadmata võttis Leblanc sule ja nii sündiski tema kangelane härrasvaras Arsène Lupin. Esimene lugu – „Arsène Lupini arreteerimine“ – ilmus 15. juulil 1905. Aastatel 1905 kuni 1941 kirjutas Leblanc kaheksa romaani ja kolmkümmend üheksa lühijuttu ning viis näidendit, mille peategelane oli Arsène Lupin.
