levels with the audience, it employs unseen actors while the lead is seated for most of the action, it moves forward via collage as much as by plot, it uses complex technology to create the radio station and the callers. The structure and texture were created during a long gestation process of trial and error.

      During the various lives of Talk Radio, others have contributed to the dialogue between Barry and his callers: Tad Savinar, Fred Zollo, Oliver Stone and now Liev Schrieber and Robert Falls. I thank them all for bringing the WTLK studio to life.

       Production History

      The original version of Talk Radio was produced in 1985 at the Portland Center for the Visual Arts through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Metropolitan Arts Commission.

      The original New York City production of Talk Radio was first performed at The Public Theater/New York Shakespeare Festival (Joseph Papp, Producer), on May 12, 1987. It was directed by Frederick Zollo. It was performed by Linda Atkinson, Eric Bogosian, William DeAcutis, Susan Gabriel, Zach Grenier, Michele M. Mariana, John C. McGinley, Mark Metcalf, Peter Onorati, Robyn Peterson and Michael Wincott.

      On March 11, 2007, Talk Radio was produced on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre. It was produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Jam Theatricals, Francis Finlay, Ronald Frankel, James Fuld, Jr., Steve Green, Judith Hansen, Patty Ann Lacerte, James Riley, Mary LuRoffe, Mort Swinsky, Sheldon Stein, Terri Childs, Timothy Childs, Style-Four Productions, Irving Welzer and Herb Blodgett, and presented in association with the Atlantic Theater Company. It was directed by Robert Falls; scenic design was by Mark Wendland, lighting design was by Christopher Akerlind, sound design was by Richard Woodbury and the costume design was by Laura Bauer; the production stage manager was Jane Grey and the stage manager was Matthew Farrell.
