Este libro se propone conciliar la corriente académica conocida como «transpersonalismo» con aquella otra denominada «giro decolonial». La segunda se aleja del eurocentrismo universalista y hace notar que el paradigma epistémico de la modernidad occidental encubre su lado oscuro, el colonialismo, y su posterior «colonialidad» del poder, el ser, el saber, los géneros, las sexualidades, las formas de autoridad y la misma naturaleza. El transpersonalismo redescubrió la relevancia de los sistemas de conocimiento, terapia y espiritualidad basados en los estados ampliados de conciencia (EAC), que aún no habían sido erradicados por completo por la cristiandad, el conservadurismo, el liberalismo y el marxismo ortodoxo. Sin embargo, en la actual crisis civilizatoria ecocidio y patriarcado mediante, se advierte su potencial decolonizador y desestructurante del sentido común anclado en el viejo paradigma. Desde testimonios que nos identifican con el mundo natural hasta un viaje reflexivo al reino de Bután, el autor plantea la urgencia de rescatar aquellas herramientas, vistas ahora como semillas de una esperanzada transmodernidad.
