    Those Black Roses

    Joyce Zeledonis

Soon-to-be divorcees Elizabeth Summerton and Simon Lafayette met and shared a passionate kiss. A year later, when they met up together again, the passion was still there. Could it be that Elizabeth had a chance with Simon? Maybe there could be. After all, Simon seemed interested in Elizabeth. But she was just a small fish in a big fish tank. Nichole Svenson, Elizabeth’s half sister, dreamed of having money, lots of money. And her life was on a slide, and Nichole made the biggest mistake of her life, endangering herself as well as Elizabeth all because Nichole wanted to swim in the big fish tank with the big fish for money. Could the game endanger everything that Nichole worked for? And who would protect them and keep them safe with a shark swimming in the big fish tank? The shark loomed in the darkness, threatening to destroy everything. There are two different meanings for black roses. One is for rebirth, mysterious and strong, but the other is darker, death. But love can endure everything, right?

    And The Twain Shall Meet

    Jason Hill

Hans was up before the call at ten o’clock on Saturday evening. He had been dreaming about the plight of the William R. Jammison. The dream had not been a pleasant one. He was still at a loss to explain what had happened to the steering system between Friday, when it was operating by the book, and this morning when it was not. Could it have anything to do with the two new unfamiliar crewmen? A deckhand would not have access to any critical areas, but an engineer definitely would. He promised himself to keep a watchful eye on Norm Bitterman, the new assistant in that department. A talk with George Oliver, the chief engineer, would also be a wise move to alert him to what might turn out to be a problem. There was no solid reason for Hans’s suspicions, but he preferred to take the cautious route.

    #JamesStrong

    James Ranahan

This is my autobiography, overcoming cancer, finding my faith, and the power of prayer. I was lucky to still be alive that day on the football field after practice. I was covered in bruises and every hit that I took felt like a car wreck. I am never one to complain and especially when contact is expected in the sport. I never wanted to seem behind compared to the other lineman at practice. An unusual comment from a family member on my brother’s birthday saying, “He looks like he’s been in a car accident” and also frequent headaches with shortness of breath, gave us all we needed to go to the doctors. With the doctors staying open after closing hours and being sent straight to the emergency room after hearing the terrifying news, I was in for a life-changing experience that I would’ve never expected.

    Jump

    Dr. James Simmons

This book of poetry is a must read in its fresh approach to life and intimacy. It draws on raw emotion in its attempt to get into the minds of its subjects. The wordplay is dynamic and displays a real vulnerability that most people experience but never admit. It is an appreciation of many subjects in life from womanhood and feminism to senseless acts of violence and racial harmony. The poems serve as a reminder that we are all alike because we all feel helplessness, heartbreak, and fear but also love, resilience, and joy when we finally choose to take that Jump into our destiny.
“It felt emotional…the plea reminded me of how helpless you feel especially during times like that. I also loved the dynamic of the Billie Jean poem…not being just a girl…a lover” (AH).
These poems were written to humble as well as inspire.

    An LA Cop

    John Bowermaster

Vietnam, April 15, 1969. At first light, the air over Firebase Diamond III was full of dust from four hours of incoming artillery shells exploding around the perimeter. Alpha and Delta companies fought for their lives during the ground attack. The air was thick with the smell of napalm from the jet air strikes. The men sat behind their bunkers, staring blankly across the open rice paddies looking for remnants of the two battalions of NVA soldiers that hurled themselves at the firebase. The men would remember and talk about this fight for the rest of their lives.
Los Angeles, May 17, 1974. Officers used buildings and vehicles along Fifty-Fourth Street for cover. Weapon fire was erupting from the small house. The officers learned there were four hundred officers at the scene. Nine thousand rounds of ammo were fired between the suspects and the police. Many officers ran out of ammunition in the first few minutes of the fight. The gunfight continued for two hours.

    Dirt Farmer's Son

    Terry A. Maurer

It’s a story of life: covering seventy-eight years (1942–2020). Dirt Farmer’s Son is written for a broad audience who have witnessed these times and for those who want to know what happened.
It shares stories of farm life during the ’40s and ’50s, Catholic military boarding-school seminary, his wife’s two kidney transplants, and the adoption of a Korean child. It also includes chapters on his chemical career and his bottled-water business.
Each chapter can stand alone, but the story flows along easily.
Be sure to see The Secrets of Achievers by Howard Westphal in the front of this book, as well as The Ten Secrets to Success by Investors Business Daily in the back of the book.
Napa Valley and CAMi Wines are in chapter XIV.
This book is available on Amazon.

    Not By Chance By Choice

    Desmond Richardson

The word hope takes on a new definition under the idea of no limitations, but this world has a way of delaying someone’s hope. Endless nights of unceasing prayer from the people of this land and yet with all these ideas on unity, we cannot seem to get it together. We put our hopes in visions and signs, and we spend our nights waiting on our every word to come to pass. We do all these to bring about a better future. This book explains why our hopes have been delayed, why life never seems to go according to plan. This book uncovers secrets in life that have been kept from us, but now, I hold these secrets hostage and give them back to the people.
Even more, this book shows us healing. My zeal for my ambitions always put me in tough positions. It was a point in my life when I was hearing voices, my hands would not stop shaking, my stomach was in constant pain, and my vision was blurred. My pride would not let me ask for help to recovery, but in my sickness, secrets came about. Two year later, I am healed. I am now a small business owner, an author, and a college degree holder. After you read this book, I hope you come to understand that life is not by chance but by choice, and the choices someone makes will make them.
