Forscher*innen im Dialog: Selbstkonsistenter Entwurf einer dialogphänomenologischen Method(ologi)e
Das selbstkonsistente Verfahren dieser Monographie ist geleitet von der Suche nach einer Forschungsmethod(ologi)e – ein von Paul Mecheril geprägter Begriff –, die das Subjekt nicht ausklammert, sich einer machtsensiblen und verantwortungsvollen Wissensproduktion verschreibt und sich zugleich jeglicher Methodenfixierung widersetzt. Dabei stellt sich die grundlegende Frage, ob es überhaupt eine Vorgehensweise geben kann, die eine solche Forschungshaltung ermöglicht, so dass heroische Forschungspositionen vermieden, Grenzen von Erkennen akzeptiert und diese in ihrer Bescheidenheit transparent dargelegt werden können. Denn jedes Forschen steht im Zwiespalt zwischen dem wissenschaftlichen Anspruch an Nachvollziehbarkeit, Reproduzierbarkeit und Objektivität auf der einen Seite und andererseits der Tatsache, dass Forschen eine menschliche Tätigkeit ist und bleibt. Doch wie mit der Subjektivität in Forschungsbeiträgen umgegangen werden soll, ist hart umkämpft.
Der dialog-phänomenologische Beitrag wird weder ein formvollendeter noch ein in sich geschlossener Diskurs sein. Mithilfe des Gestaltansatzes, der Erfahrungsphänomenologie sowie der Bewusstseinsphänomenologie und der Dialogphilosophie kommt Nicole Pankoke dem (Nicht-)Erleben, (Nicht-)Erkennen sowie (Nicht-)Erfassen innerhalb des Forschungsprozesses auf die Spur. Neben dem Erarbeiten eines selbstkonsistenten Vorgehens bei der Entwicklung und Durchführung des Method(ologi)e-Ineinandergreifens setzt sie sich mit Grenzen des Sagbaren auseinander, mit Phänomenen von Scham und Schutz sowie mit der Angst vor dem Scheitern im Kontext von Forschung.

The Vlasov Case: History of a Betrayal
A famous Soviet general who fought in the Battle of Moscow (1941/1942) and the siege of Leningrad (1941–1944), Andrey Vlasov (1901–1946) was captured by Nazi troops and then defected to the Third Reich. Supported by Nazi propaganda, he created a “Russian Liberation Committee” that later became the “Russian Liberation Army” (RLA). The RLA was a body of several hundred officers and several thousand troops who had defected from the USSR and served Nazi purposes on Soviet territory. Vlasov was arrested by Soviet troops in Czechoslovakia while trying to escape to the Western Front and was subsequently tried for treason and executed by Soviet authorities.
In 2015, the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI) released three volumes of archives documenting the infamous “Vlasov Case,” the main instance of Soviet collaborationism with Nazi Germany. With this volume, which draws on the archives of Russia, Belarus, Germany, and the US, the English-speaking audience can now access the most important documents on this topic for the first time. The documents tell the story of Vlasov’s betrayal, from the moment he became a prisoner, to his service under the Nazis, and up through the trial in Moscow in 1946.
Volume 1 is comprised of archival documents on Vlasov’s activities from 1942 to 1945. Volume 2 explores the Soviet investigations of Vlasov during the 1945–1946 trial.

How Corruption and Anti-Corruption Policies Sustain Hybrid Regimes
Leaders of hybrid regimes in pursuit of political domination and material gain instrumentalize both hidden forms of corruption and public anti-corruption policies. Corruption is pursued for different purposes including cooperation with strategic partners and exclusion of opponents. Presidents use anti-corruption policies to legitimize and institutionalize political domination. Corrupt practices and anti-corruption policies become two sides of the same coin and are exercised to maintain an uneven political playing field.
This study combines empirical analysis and social constructivism for an investigation into the presidencies of Leonid Kuchma (1994–2005), Viktor Yushchenko (2005–2010), and Viktor Yanukovych (2010–2014). Explorative expert interviews, press surveys, content analysis of presidential speeches, as well as critical assessment of anti-corruption legislation are used for comparison and process tracing of the utilization of corruption under three Ukrainian presidents.
The Practice of Medicine as Being in Time
This is an exciting, but difficult, season for the practice of medicine. The effects of corporate transformation on the practice are part of a larger cultural crisis. The arena of medicine is a proving ground for our responses to this crisis, because it is so intimately and immediately related to our bodies. Our answers to contemporary challenges in the practice of medicine will depend on, and probably shape, our answers to philosophical questions at the core of our existence: How do we inhabit our unpredictable and limited lives in a way that allows us to flourish, and how can the deep practice of medicine help?
Time is the condition for all human experience, but for mortals like us, time is limited. This limit gives our lives the arc of a story, with a beginning, middle, and end. Unfortunately, many of us in the modern world avoid thinking about limits in our lives—especially the limit on our time called death. The practice of medicine serves people who are facing limits in their lives brought on by the threats of disease and death. Because good doctoring is so intimately related to the complex impact these threats have on our limited lives, this book argues that the significance and meaning of the practice of medicine is inextricably bound to existence in time.
