Acercarse a la obesidad infantil desde la perspectiva de la salud internacional es un intento de cuestionar su tradicional concepción como problema sanitario, revelándola en una red de complejas interacciones que trascienden los comportamientos individuales del comer y gastar. Este trabajo se basa sobre las tensiones y conflictos que permean la problemática del exceso de peso infantil, donde los juegos entre actores, las prioridades de la agenda pública, las jerarquías de poder y los intereses contrapuestos condicionan los modos de comer. Es el resultado de un trabajo de investigación realizado en Argentina pero donde las categorías abordadas podrían aplicarse a cualquier país latinoamericano, reproduciendo resultados comunes en contextos heterogéneos. El aporte se centra en la afirmación de que existen fuerzas internacionales que condicionan los entornos alimentarios tanto a nivel nacional como local, de manera tal que pueden promover u obstaculizar la proyección de políticas alimentarias y nutricionales.
