Estela contra el olvido
Inmediatamente después de las explosiones del 22 de abril de 1992, que afectaron más de ocho kilómetros de calles y casas del Sector Reforma de Guadalajara y dejaron centenares de muertos y miles de damnificados, artistas de las más diversas disciplinas se ocuparon de la tragedia. En las calles aledañas a la zona del siniestro y en otros puntos de la ciudad aparecieron grafitis con poemas y consignas, se pintaron murales, se pegaron carteles, se realizaron tocadas y lecturas; al paso de los meses y los años, se publicaron poemas, cuentos y ensayos en revistas y libros —inclusive novelas—, se montaron obras de teatro, se presentaron exposiciones de artes plásticas y fotografía, entre un sinnúmero más de actividades y expresiones variadas. En vísperas de cumplirse el primer decenio de la tragedia, la agrupación de damnificados Abril en Guadalajara, a través la señora Lilia Ruiz, invitó al artista Alfredo López Casanova a realizar una escultura para rememorar la catástrofe, que intituló Estela contra el olvido. Nosotros, por nuestra parte, fuimos invitados por él a sumarnos a la campaña de apoyo para erigir el monumento, en un principio con la idea de organizar un maratón de poesía. Aceptamos sin pensarlo dos veces, pero poco después consideramos que nuestra colaboración podía ser de mayor utilidad con la edición de un libro que reuniera textos de escritores nacidos o radicados en Jalisco, cuyo tema fuera la tragedia del 22 de abril, y que éste se difundiera y vendiera en pro de la escultura. Nos entusiasmó la idea de recoger la literatura dispersa y dejar un vestigio, una estela más para no olvidarnos de esa gravísima desdicha histórica.
