Autor en parte y editor de la antología de poesía del llano titulada 26 Cantores llaneros, Mantilla Trejos recolecta, definir y ordenó un glosario de 4.502 vocablos y 457 refranes y dichos de la regían, para ensamblar el presente Diccionario llanero, libro que está llamado a ser una Litil herramienta de trabajo para científicos del idioma y un magnifico catalizador de las vocaciones literarias que empiezan a perfilarse en la llanura oriental. Con paciencia benedictina el autor de este trabajo, durante 20 años, recorrió Arauca, Casanare, Meta, Vichada y Apure, en Venezuela, y dialog6 allí con patriarcas huracos dueños de hato, peones a destajo, indios andariegos, copleros relancinos, Viejas lenguaraces; acopio montones de información y arrumes de opiniones hasta lograr esta obra que tiene importantisima misión cultural: revelar como se entienden los llaneros.
