как лингвистические, так и другие модели культуры, направленных на выявление разнообразных систем мышления и связи между ними и формами разговорной речи и поведения в целом. Работы о хопи, винту и навахо, которые у нас есть, кратки, но их достаточное количество указывает на необходимость дальнейших исследований и наводит на мысль, что они могут быть плодотворными. Рассматриваемый материал также свидетельствует о том, что исследования такого рода имеют ценность не только для узких дисциплин лингвистики и антропологии, но и для всей науки. Как отмечал Уорф, анализ и понимание лингвистических микрокосмов, отличающихся от наших собственных, открывает «возможные новые типы логики и возможные новые космические образы» (1941b, p.16), которые имеют огромное значение для понимания наших собственных способов мышления и их эволюции. «Западная культура посредством языка произвела предварительный анализ реальности и – без поправок – твердо считает этот анализ окончательным». Но есть другие культуры, «которые эпохами независимой эволюции пришли к различным, но в равной степени логическим, предварительным анализам», которые могут оказаться полезными в качестве поправок к нашему собственному (1941b, p.18).
