Efficient Processing of Deep Neural Networks

    Vivienne Sze

This book provides a structured treatment of the key principles and techniques for enabling efficient processing of deep neural networks (DNNs). DNNs are currently widely used for many artificial intelligence (AI) applications, including computer vision, speech recognition, and robotics. While DNNs deliver state-of-the-art accuracy on many AI tasks, it comes at the cost of high computational complexity. Therefore, techniques that enable efficient processing of deep neural networks to improve key metrics—such as energy-efficiency, throughput, and latency—without sacrificing accuracy or increasing hardware costs are critical to enabling the wide deployment of DNNs in AI systems. The book includes background on DNN processing; a description and taxonomy of hardware architectural approaches for designing DNN accelerators; key metrics for evaluating and comparing different designs; features of DNN processing that are amenable to hardware/algorithm co-design to improve energy efficiency and throughput; and opportunities for applying new technologies. Readers will find a structured introduction to the field as well as formalization and organization of key concepts from contemporary work that provide insights that may spark new ideas.

    The Voyage Out

    Virginia Woolf

"A strange, tragic, inspired novel . . . as poignant as anything in modern fiction." — E. M. Forster This acclaimed novel marked the debut of one of the twentieth century's most brilliant and important writers. In Virginia Woolf's captivating exploration of a young woman's growing self-awareness, the events of a shipboard journey to South America parallel the naive heroine's inner quest. Her experiences, from a first kiss to a surprising flowering of real love, may inspire the reader to reflect on gender roles in society, love among intellectuals, and the strivings and sorrows of life. The Voyage Out offers an excellent introduction to Woolf's writing. Not only is it the first of her novels, it is also one of the most accessible. Less formally experimental than Woolf's later books, but highly representative of her poetic style and innovative techniques, it offers a moving depiction of the thrills and confusion of youth.

    Message to the People

    Marcus Garvey

In 1937, Marcus Garvey, founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and one of the most controversial figures in the history of race relations, assembled his most trusted organizers to impart his life's lessons. For one month he instructed this elite student body — at its peak the largest international mass movement of African peoples — on topics ranging from universal knowledge and how to attain it to leadership, character, God, and the social system.  A crucial guide to the understanding of Garvey's philosophy and teachings, Message to the People features profound insights into the nascent days of the Civil Rights movement. This volume will prove an enlightening companion to students of African American and twentieth-century history.

    Many Mansions

    Isabel Bolton

A finalist for the National Book Award, Many Mansions was originally published in 1952 and received raves upon its debut. Now available for the first time in a paperback edition, the novel recounts an elderly woman's difficult decision to reread an unpublished memoir. Her poignant story of forbidden love and sacrifice, which begins during the Victorian era and concludes in the years following World War II, recalls the aristocratic elegance and psychological insights of works by Edith Wharton and Henry James. PRAISE FOR ISABEL BOLTON "She is not merely a clever woman writer who exploits the feminine sensibility vibrating on the edge of contemporary life. She is a poet of the nobler kind who uses the compression and the polish of her fiction to focus human insights and to concentrate moral passion." — Edmund Wilson, The New Yorker "The best woman writer of fiction in this country today." — Diana Trilling, The Nation "Bolton clearly learned from Virginia Woolf when it came to mingling serious and frivolous people and circumstances, then making each matter without pretending that they will transform one another permanently." — Margo Jefferson, The New York Times

    The Landlord

    Kristin Hunter

"An elaborate spoof that somehow manages to combine touches of the absurd and intimations of the surreal, strokes of caricature, slapstick, and the grotesque, with an inherent down-to-earth sanity and realism." — Saturday Review A wealthy white man and earnest do-gooder buys a building in a ghetto neighborhood in this warmly comic novel. Elgar Enders, having been expelled from eight Ivy League schools, is eager to make something of himself. He begins by attempting to improve his new property, an endeavor that plunges him into a world of cheerful amorality. Elgar's tenants — an uninhibited hairdresser and her militant husband, a refined grifter, and a former jazz singer who practices voodoo — gleefully proceed to take advantage of his naivety. But the fledgling landlord receives something of value in return in this satirical look at issues of gentrification, race, class, and privilege. Called "rather readable" by Andrew Sarris in The New York Times, this acclaimed novel was the basis for Hal Ashby's 1970 film of the same name.

Great Stories from the German Romantics

    Ludwig Tieck

This outstanding compilation presents stories by two of the writers who helped launch the early nineteenth-century German Romanticism movement: Ludwig Tieck and Jean Paul Richter. Translated by the great British historian Thomas Carlyle, it features seven highly influential tales that range in mood from fantasy and fairy tale lightness to witty satire. Shemlzie's Journey to Fletz and Life of Quintus Fixlien, a story and a novella by Richter, the least translated of the major German Romantics, are of particular note. Ludwig Tieck (1773–1859) is best known for his fantastic stories and short novels, which appeal more to the emotions than the intellect. He translated the works of Shakespeare and Cervantes into German, served as a literary advisor to Dresden's Court Theater, and ranked second only to Goethe as Germany's leading literary authority. Jean Paul Richter (1763–1825) bridged the shift in literature from the formal ideals of Weimar Classicism to the intuitive transcendentalism of early Romanticism. His works range in tone from sentimental humor to bitter satire and span a variety of genres, from fiction to treatises on education and aesthetics.

    Follow Your Heart

    Gail Odom

She awakes as every morning, with the same feeling of being in a place where she didn’t want to be. She sees the many faces going through her mind. Della shakes her head, holding back tears. Her heart is aching for something more. What did her mother always say? Oh yes, “Follow your heart, Della, follow your heart.” Della rises and goes to the window. Della turns. Feeling of loneliness washes over her. Her day has already started, whether she wants it or not. The face she sees in the mirror doesn’t look back at all. Her mind is far away, a place in a valley, a small house by a stream. She feels happy as she goes to the door of the house but steps back in haste. A shadow fills the doorway, a man, tall and dark. Her heart is racing.

THE American Citizens Handbook on Immigration

    Clements Jarboe

    Back Cover

Thomas Jefferson wrote “a well-informed electorate is a prerequisite to democracy.”
The American Citizens’ Handbook’s mission is to bring that line of thinking to the forefront of the immigration arena.
What started as a search for a questionable confirmation of a lone statistic ended after close to two years of research, being a candid conversation from a concerned citizen on inaccurate data with self-serving agendas.
Inside this cover, you will discover startling information that brings to light that the new class of victim is the US citizen.
    You will see
how immigrants, legal and illegal, use the additional child care credit to claim billions in fraudulent claims
that there are credible statistics showing that there are more than 20,000,000 illegal immigrants in the US, with 60 percent of those having lived in the country for over a decade
that the top 10 H-1B employers use the visa program to send American jobs offshore
how the lack of assimilation interferes with our children’s education in the US
how illegal immigrants that arrive at an early age are more likely to be incarcerated than those who arrive at later ages
the impact that birth tourism plays in this country with over five hundred Chinese companies offering the service
how immigration profoundly redistributes political power at the federal level
the fact that sanctuary laws fall hardest on the backs of the American Citizens in that area.

The American Citizens’ Handbook on Immigration shows how society is putting the citizens of this great country second.
The content has been said to be articulate, factual, and informational.
    Thomas Jefferson would be proud.
