Роберт Майкл Баллантайн (1825–1894) – шотландский писатель. Некоторое время работал в Канаде, в Компании Гудзонова Залива, участвовал в операциях против местных индейцев. По возвращении на родину он пробовал себя во многих профессиях, а в 1842 г. появляется «Жизнь в дебрях Северной Америки» – автобиографическая книга, где автор описывает свои приключения в Канаде.
