In the land of Nictinus, everybody has a purpose. Fish swim, birds fly, and horses run. One day, a horse named Helia gives birth Pega, Pega is a very adorable black pony, born with short legs. As Pega grows up, his legs were not long enough for him to run as fast as the rest of the herd. He usually trots behind everybody else. Helia notices this and comforts her son. She prays to Zeus and talks to him. She wonders what the god can do to help her son become greater than he is. Zeus tells Helia to be patient because soon, Pega's purpose will be revealed. Years pass by and Pega's legs grow longer but thinner than the normal legs of a stallion. He just grazes alongside Helia and stays away from the horses his age. He just doesn't want to be made fun of all the time. Suddenly, a huge fire was started by a few young stallions in the forest. They cornered a phoenix, which set a few dried leaves into flames. There was a fawn trapped in the forest, unable to escape the flames. Pega is the only one near enough to rescue the fawn. He tries his best to trot to the fawn. What will happen to Pega as he jumps over the burning log to rescue the fawn? Will he be able to be greater than he is on thin, weak legs?

Teddy is a 3 year old boy who loves to laugh and play. He is afraid of the big house where his great grandma lives. His mother takes him to visit his great grandma in this resident nursing home. He thinks the house smells bad and is afraid of all the old people in it. He has a lot of anxiety about the visit to see great grandma. He tries to pretend he is sick so his mother won't take him. He tries to hide so his mother will not find him and go without him, but she finds him. He cries about not wanting to go saying the people there scare him. His mother talks to him about the people in the home, explaining that they are great grandmas and grandpas of other little kids like him. When they go to visit his great grandma in the nursing home they stop along the way to his great grandma's room to meet and talk with some of the residents. They enjoy telling Teddy about their great grand children. Teddy learns that the residents are people just like his great grandma. He finally relaxes and has a good visit with his great grandma.
Shay Sparrow is one of the best small birds at finding objects for the great scavenger hunt that is held every last weekend in the summer. One of the items on the list is a black feather with red and yellow markings. Shay decides to make things easier this year and paint a feather he found from a black crow. Mimi is a young girl about seven. She lives in a wooded area without a lot of friends or close neighbors. The animals in the woods are her friends though and she is rarely lonely. She tells people that the animals can talk to her. She has been able to understand them and sometimes to speak to them since she was younger. In fact they can talk to her though many of her family members consider her odd for saying so. Mimi is not allowed to go out into the forest alone. A large black wolf lives in the woods and she's been warned that wolves carry children away. She wanders out into the woodlands one day and finds herself lost. She's wandering around trying to make her way out of the woods when she hears a cracking noise in the woods behind her. The large black wolf emerges from the thicket before she has time to run or even try to climb a tree. She manages to scramble to a lower branch as the wolf ambles slowly toward her, not appearing to pay much attention to her. She thinks that it's odd that he isn't running towards her if things are as she's been told and wolves like to carry away children. She watches him for a while until he goes away, scrambles down and makes her way , after a time, to home. The next day she goes back to where he was with a bit of meat for him, climbs the tree and waits.

He meets Molly the doe and Fred the king snake as he tries to find his way home. Meanwhile, Adam makes it back to the yard and organizes a search party to go find Little Joel. Meanwhile Little Joel is learning how to be patient and wise with his new friends as he waits to be found. Will they ever find him and bring him home?
