Science has established that the fundamental difference between man and animals occurred about a million years ago in South Africa. It was based on mutational processes that led to the fact that in the areas associated with the development of the brain of the “zone of accelerated human development”, the protein packaging of DNA was rearranged. These areas of the brain of ancient human ancestors accidentally happened to be next to enhancers – amplifiers of gene activity, which became a turning point in the history of ancient people.

На протяжении последних 20 лет участники международного консорциума Zoonomia расшифровывали геномы животных из различных семейств и сравнивали их с последовательностью ДНК человека. Результаты многолетних исследований позволили лучше понять, на каком этапе эволюции произошли изменения, сделавшие из человекообразных обезьян людей. Наука установила, что коренное отличие человека от животных произошло около миллиона лет назад в Южной Африке. В основе лежали мутационные процессы, приведшие к тому, что в участках, связанных с развитием мозга «зоны ускоренного развития человека», перестроилась белковая упаковка ДНК. Эти зоны мозга древних предков человека случайно оказались рядом с энхансерами – усилителями активности генов, что стало поворотным моментом в истории древнейших людей. Но эта случайность была и необходимостью, возникшей, по всей вероятности, со сменой пищи, употребляемой древними предками, именно использование пищи, приготовленной на огне, послужило этим толчком.
