По-прежнему я улыбался ему в лицо; и он не знал, что теперь я улыбаюсь при мысли о его неминуемой гибели. У него была одна слабость, у этого Фортунато, хотя в других отношениях он был человеком, которого должно было уважать и даже бояться. Он считал себя знатоком вин и немало этим гордился...»
