El gato con botas es un cuento popular europeo, recopilado en 1697 por Charles Perrault en su Cuentos de mamá ganso (Contes de ma mère l'Oye) como El gato maestro y anteriormente en 1634 por Giambattista Basile como Cagliuso.
Un rey tenía una bella esposa, un castillo y riquezas, incluyendo un burro maravilloso cuyos excrementos eran de oro. Un día murió su esposa, después de hacerle prometer que no se casaría hasta que no encontrara una mujer cuya belleza y atributos igualara los suyos. Aunque el rey estaba triste le convencieron de buscar otra esposa. Se hizo evidente que la única mujer que encajaría con la promesa era su propia hija.

Una de las formas del cuento de la Cenicienta más conocidas en occidente es la del francés Charles Perrault, que escribió en 1697 una versión de la historia transmitida mediante tradición oral.

Kõik armastasid tüdrukukest, ka vanaema armastas teda väga palju ning tegi talle palju ilusaid kingitusi. Nende hulgas oli ka punane kapuutsiga keep, mida tüdruk alati kandis.
