The Gods of Mars - The Original Classic Edition

    Burroughs Edgar

This classic tale of high adventure from Edgar Rice Burroughs made him into one of the best pulp fantasy writers of the time. His writing introduced many concepts, techniques and plotting which are still used to this day.
This of course is the story of John Carters return to Mars in search of the incomparable Dejah Thoris and hopefully save her again from a fate worse than death. John Carter who is the greatest swordsman on two planets lands in the wrong place. He ends up in Mars Heaven, so to speak, which is far from that he soon learns. And the adventure begins.
He is reunited with his friend the mighty Jeddak of Thark, the great green, four armed warrior and of course a plethora of bad guys and good guys. The action never stops and the sword play is never ending. Strange creatures abound and of course our hero overcomes all odds.
This is wonderful, action packed fantasy at its best. And does John Carter, greatest swordsman of two planets find and save the love of his life? Well, no spoilers here, so you have to read it for yourself.

Tarzan of the Apes - The Original Classic Edition

    Burroughs Edgar

Edgar Rice Burroughs started writing adventure novels nearly 100 years ago. The most famous of his characters is, or course, Tarzan. And this book is the one that got the Tarzan legacy started.
In this book you meet Tarzan, learn who he really is, where he came from, how he became lord of the apes and protector of the jungle, and the English Earl of Greystoke. You also learn the story behind the story about Tarzan and Jane.
This Tarzan book is probably the best of the all. If you read a lot of Tarzan books back to back you will see a somewhat formulaic approach to some of the installments. This first book, however, is original, interesting, and immensely entertaining.
I encourage you to read the book that got it all started in 1914 – the premis, the character, and the mystique that spawned numerous films, and other spin-off media, and a series of books that spanned publication dates from 1914 well into the 1940s.
Move over Indiana Jones and James Bond – Tarzan is the real McCoy. Hes strong, brave, modest, wise, and good. Hes got the attributes that we could sure use in a hero today!
Give this book a look. Youll be glad you did. Its a book that you could enjoy reading to your children.
5 stars for story, character development, readability, and content. Is it a literary classic? Yes, in that it holds its own respected place among fictional literature. Will it ever will literary acclaim? I dont think that Joyce or Faulkner need to worry.
But, hey, its a fun read! Give it a try.

A Princess of Mars - The Original Classic Edition

    Burroughs Edgar

Although Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is justifiably famous as the creator of Tarzan of the Apes, that uprooted Englishman was not his only popular hero. Burroughss first sale (in 1912) was A Princess of Mars, opening the floodgates to one of the must successful–and prolific–literary careers in history.
This is a wonderful scientific romance that perhaps can be best described as early science fiction melded with an epic dose of romantic adventure. A Princess of Mars is the first adventure of John Carter, a Civil War veteran who unexpectedly find himself transplanted to the planet Mars. Yet this red planet is far more than a dusty, barren place; its a fantasy world populated with giant green barbarians, beautiful maidens in distress, and weird flora and monstrous fauna the likes of which could only exist in the authors boundless imagination.
Sheer escapism of the tallest order, the Martian novels are perfect entertainment for those who find Tarzans fantastic adventures arent, well, fantastic enough. Although this novel can stand alone, there are a total of 11 volumes in this classic series of otherworldly, swashbuckling adventure.
