Frederick Merrick White (1859-1935) was a pioneer in many fields – the spy story, the detective story, and most especially the epic disaster story. His «Doom of London» series (1903), consisting of six tales in which various catastrophes beset London (including diphtheria, killer smog, and a devastanzing freeze), proved quite popular. The Yorkshire Observer wrote of him: “Mr. White is a master of the breathless pace which whirls a reader along whether he will or not." Included in this volume are all six «Doom of London» stories, plus 9 more tales:
THE FOUR WHITE DAYS (1903)
THE FOUR DAYS' NIGHT (1903)
THE DUST OF DEATH (1903)
A BUBBLE BURST (1903)
THE INVISIBLE FORCE (1903)
THE RIVER OF DEATH (1903)
THE ISLAND OF SHADOWS (1892)
A GOLDEN ARGOSY (1886)
NABOTH’S VINEYARD (1889)
THE CARDINAL MOTH (1905)
THE CRIMSON BLIND (1905)
THE SLAVE OF SILENCE (1906)
THE WEIGHT OF THE CROWN (1906)
THE FIVE KNOTS (1908)
THE MYSTERY OF THE FOUR FINGERS (1908)
HARD PRESSED (1910)
If you enjoy this book, search your favorite ebook store for «Wildside Press Megapack» to see the 150+ entries in the Megapack series, covering science fiction, fantasy, horror, mysteries, westerns, classics, adventure stories, and much, much more!
