The Lilac Girl (Romance Classic)
Wade Herrick and his business partner Ed are prospectors looking for gold in Colorado. One day, as they wait between the claims, a train stops in the station and Wade notices a beautiful young lady on it. He approaches to meet her and after a pleasant conversation he expresses his affections to her and swears on eternal love to her under the moonlight. She laughingly gives him a sprig of her lilacs as a love-token, and he promises to keep it forever and to find her one day. Years pass and Wade's partner Ed dies, leaving his property and belongings to Wade, including a house in New Hampshire. When Wade shows up to his new house he is in for a shocking surprise, his next door neighbor as a lilac girl from the train.

The book follows the adventures of a young lad, Nils Holgersson, whose «chief delight was to eat and sleep, and after that he liked best to make mischief». He takes great delight in hurting the animals on his family farm. Nils captures a tomte in a net while his family are at church and have left him home to memorize chapters from the Bible. The tomte proposes to Nils that if Nils frees him, the tomte will give him a huge gold coin. Nils rejects the offer and the tomte turns Nils into a tomte, which leaves him shrunken and able to talk with animals, who are thrilled to see the boy reduced to their size and are angry and hungry for revenge.

History of the United States Constitution
This 2-volume book represents the very first special history of the origin and establishment of the Constitution of the United States in American literature. The Constitution of the United States was the means by which republican liberty was saved from the consequences of impending anarchy; it secured that liberty to posterity, and it left it to depend on their fidelity to the Union. The alternatives, therefore, that presented themselves to the generation by whom the Constitution was established, were either to devise a system of republican government that would answer the great purposes of a lasting union, or to resort to something in the nature of monarchy. With the first alternative, the preservation of the States, and of all the needful institutions which marked their separate existence, though a difficult, was yet a possible result. To this preservation of the separate States America owes that power of minute local administration, which is so prominent and important feature of the American liberty. Finally, the Constitution of the United States made the people of these several provinces one nation, and gave them a standing among the nations of the world.
