Natural Products. Isolation, Structure Elucidation, History

Stefan Berger

Written by experienced authors, this book presents numerous natural everyday products with a high range of structural diversity. Twenty natural products have been arranged in five sections, describing three alkaloids, five colored compounds, three carbohydrates and glycosides, seven terpenoids, and two aromatic compounds. Adopting a highly didactical approach, each chapter features a uniform structure: Background, in-depth information about isolation processes and structural characterization as well as a Q&A section at the end. Alongside the theoretical information many practical hints for the laboratory work are also included. A comprehensive overview of UV-, IR- and NMR-spectroscopy as well as mass-spectrometry for every exemplified compound is provided and the understanding of these methods is supported by concluding questions and exercises. Educating and entertaining, this full-color textbook turns the learning process into a real pleasure, not only for students in natural products chemistry but also experienced professionals.

Issues explored include trauma, drug use, pregnancy, cyberbullying, suicide, gangs, parental conflicts, sexual orientation, third-culture students, student career development, and ethical and professional dilemmas. Tarrell Awe Agahe Portman, PhD, is the dean of the College of Education at Winona State University. Chris Wood, PhD, is an associate professor in the Counselor Education program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Heather J. Fye, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Counselor Education program at the University of Alabama. *Requests for digital versions from the ACA can be found on wiley.com. *To request print copies, please visit the ACA website.

Multicultural Competence in Student Affairs. Advancing Social Justice and Inclusion

Amy Reynolds L.

Effectively address the challenges of equity and inclusion on campus The long-awaited second edition, Multicultural Competence in Student Affairs: Advancing Social Justice and Inclusion, introduces an updated model of student affairs competence that reflects the professional competencies identified by ACPA and NASPA (2015) and offers a valuable approach to dealing effectively with increasingly complex multicultural issues on campus. To reflect the significance of social justice, the updated model of multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills now includes multicultural action and advocacy and speaks directly to the need for enhanced perspectives, tools, and strategies to create inclusive and equitable campuses. This book offers a fresh approach and new strategies for student affairs professionals to enhance their practice; useful guidelines and revised core competencies provide a framework for everyday challenges, best practices that advance the ability of student affairs professionals to create multicultural change on their campuses, and case studies that allow readers to consider and apply essential awareness, knowledge, skills, and action applied to common student affairs situations. Multicultural Competence in Student Affairs: Advancing Social Justice and Inclusion will allow professionals to: Examine the updated and revised dynamic model of student affairs competence Learn how multicultural competence translates into effective and efficacious practice Understand the inextricable connections between multicultural competence and social justice Examine the latest research and practical implications Explore the impacts of practices on assessment, advising, ethics, teaching, administration, technology, and more Learn tools and strategies for creating multicultural change, equity, and inclusion on campus Understanding the changes taking place on campus today and developing the competencies to make individual and systems change is essential to the role of student affairs professional. What is needed are new ways of thinking and innovative strategies and approaches to how student affairs professionals interact with students, train campus faculty and staff, and structure their campuses. Multicultural Competence in Student Affairs: Advancing Social Justice and Inclusion provides guidance for the evolving realities of higher education.

Kinetics of Chemical Reactions. Decoding Complexity

Denis Constales

Energy Transfers by Convection

Abdelhanine Benallou

Whether in a solar thermal power plant or at the heart of a nuclear reactor, convection is an important mode of energy transfer. This mode is unique; it obeys specific rules and correlations that constitute one of the bases of equipment-sizing equations. In addition to standard aspects of convention, this book examines transfers at very high temperatures where, in order to ensure the efficient transfer of energy for industrial applications, it is becoming necessary to use particular heat carriers, such as molten salts, liquid metals or nanofluids. With modern technologies, these situations are becoming more frequent, requiring appropriate consideration in design calculations. Energy Transfers by Convection also studies the sizing of electronic heat sinks used to ensure the dissipation of heat and thus the optimal operation of circuit boards used in telecommunications, audio equipment, avionics and computers.
