"Der Regenbogen" erzählt die Geschichte dreier Generationen der Familie Brangwen, die in den englischen Midlands einen Bauernhof bewirtschaftet. Die Romanhandlung beginnt mit der Heirat des jungen Tom Brangwen mit Lydia Lensky, einer polnischen Witwe. Die Ehe erweist sich als überaus schwierig. Anna Lensky, Lydias Tochter aus erster Ehe, heiratet Will Brangwen. Anna und Will haben neun Kinder. Ursula Brangwen, das älteste Kind, probiert eine Beziehung mit ihrer Lehrerin Winifred Inger, einer Feministin. Eine weitere probiert sie mit dem jungen Offizier Anton Skrebensky. Alle drei Frauen – Lydia, Anna und Ursula – suchen intensive Nähe und Verbundenheit mit ihren Partnern, finden diese aber ausschließlich in sexuellen Begegnungen und auch dort nur flüchtig; in allen anderen Bereichen erscheint die Fremdheit unüberwindlich.
Söhne und Liebhaber (Band 1&2)
"Söhne und Liebhaber" ist ein Bildungs- und Künstlerroman, der den Werdegang Paul Morels schildert und sein Verhalten zu Frauen, insbesondere zu seiner Mutter, der langjährigen Freundin Miriam und der verheirateten, aber in Trennung lebenden Clara Dawes. Der Roman spielt im England des späten 19. Jahrhunderts und erzählt die Geschichte eines Mannes, der emotional so sehr an seiner Mutter hängt und von ihr beeinflusst wird, dass er nicht in der Lage ist, eine dauerhafte Beziehung einzugehen, wenn er andere Frauen trifft.

The Plumed Serpent
The Plumed Serpent is a 1926 political novel by D. H. Lawrence. The novel reflects his experiences in Mexico in 1923. The story tells about Kate Leslie, an Irish tourist who visits Mexico after the Mexican Revolution. There, he gets acquainted with Don Cipriano, a Mexican general who supports the Men of Quetzalcoatl, a religious movement. Both characters are driven into dangerous adventures, political turmoil and a romantic affair.
