"Gitanjali" is a collection of poems by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. The English Gitanjali or Song Offerings is a collection of Tagore's own English translations of his Bengali poems. These poems highlight the many realizations author had under the crimson sky, casting his forlorn eye and pensive heart. Tagore received the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for this book. "Fruit-Gathering" is a collection of poems and a sequel to Gitanjali. In it, Tagore meditates simply and directly on the interplay between the individual and the surroundings. "My Reminiscences" is an autobiography of the great Bengali poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore.
Creative Unity is a religious book by Rabindranath Tagore. The main idea behind this book is that the man exists for the sole purpose of creation rather than production. It is backed up by author's extensive knowledge on the subject regarding the spiritual and physical aspects of nature and man. His emphasis on poetry and literary art skills of our ancestors in paving the way for a harmonious existence with nature's beauty and God's love is well brought out.
The Home and the World illustrates the battle between the ideas of Western culture and revolution against the Western culture in India. These two ideas are portrayed in two of the main characters, Nikhil, who is rational and opposes violence, and Sandip, who will let nothing stand in his way from reaching his goals. These two opposing ideals are very important in understanding the history of the Bengal region and its contemporary problems. The novel is set in early 20th century India. The story line coincides with the National Independence Movement taking place in the country at the time, which was sparked by the Indian National Congress.
Nationalism is a collection of essays by Rabindranath Tagore on the theme of nationalism. He compares the aspects of nationalism in India, in Japan and in the West, in the sunset of the 19th century.
