Meraud
This is the first instalment in the tales of Death, otherwise known as The Grim Reaper and also his rival, Rìghfuil, the Blood King. This volume focuses on Meraud, the youngest of the immortal Portents, who is in the service of Death. As an immortal, destined to bear witness to the tragic deaths of humans throughout eternity, her emotions are finally tested. Not only does she experience love for another Portent called Fear, she also feels mercy for a human named Dale. It is her mercy, combined with her reckless decision, that ultimately could deliver Dale, a fate worse than Death. Meraud's difficult lesson is the first rule of the Portent existence.
