'Lasting Past' is the third book in 'Straight from The Onion Vine' trilogy. Author Jody Scott-Smith, from her daughter's friends, realizes not everyone grows up in a home with two loving parents. Main character Kara has a devoted Mom and a dad, who's recently back in her life. She has many feelings she shares with her boyfriend Scott and BFF Suzanne.
Jody Scott-Smith strongly believes that friends can fill an emptiness, through shared experience and support. She saw this happen many times with her daughter and friends, to help each other through to graduation and beyond.
Jody and her family live in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts. She enjoys dog agility and 'plays' with two Papillons, often camping for the weekend at trial sites.

"Straight from The Onion Vine" takes place in a small town. It could be one in New England, where Jody Scott-Smith now lives. Or more like Anchorage, Kentucky, east of Louisville where she grew up.
As a nurse, taking care of patients has always been the most rewarding part of Jody Scott-Smith's work. From them she learned everyone has a story. A patient once said, «Any day you can put two feet on the ground is a good day». She was confined to a wheel chair.
Especially in the Tween years, Jody Scott-Smith knows how important friends can be. Her daughter Kelli's friends were welcome anytime she was home. This gave Jody time to get to know them and hear what they had to say. Their situations and how they coped helped inspire «Straight from The Onion Vine», to help Tweens prepare for high school.

"Straight from The Onion Vine" Book 2 Turnaround continues the turmoil Kara, Scott, Suzanne and Neil face in Lakewood High. Kara's one time best friend Annie has not left the picture, either. She has a way of re-appearing…and always has a reason.
Like Kara's town, author Jody Scott-Smith lives in a small town. Her daughter's friends often talked of the problems written about in the 'Onion Vine' books. Jody Scott-Smith is a nurse and enjoys camping with her dogs on an agility weekend. They have to complete weave poles, jumps and many other obstacles on a course. Pictures of her Papillons will soon be posted on Facebook. Sparky and Skipper rule!
