En entrant derrière lui dans son terrier, elle fait une chute presque interminable qui l'emmène dans un monde aux antipodes du sien. Elle va rencontrer une galerie de personnages retors et se trouver confrontée au paradoxe, à l'absurde et au bizarr. Le pays des merveilles, tel qu'il est décrit dans le conte, joue sans cesse avec la logique.

Alice im Wunderland ist ein erstmals 1865 erschienenes Kinderbuch des britischen Schriftstellers Lewis Carroll. Alice im Wunderland gilt als eines der hervorragenden Werke aus dem Genre des literarischen Nonsens. Gemeinsam mit der 1871 erschienenen Fortsetzung Alice hinter den Spiegeln wird dieses Kinderbuch zu den Klassikern der Weltliteratur gezählt. Die fiktive Welt, in der Alice im Wunderland angesiedelt ist, spielt in solch einer Weise mit Logik, dass sich die Erzählung unter Mathematikern und Kindern gleichermaßen großer Beliebtheit erfreut. Sie enthält zahlreiche satirische Anspielungen – nicht nur auf persönliche Freunde Carrolls, sondern auch auf die Schullektionen, die Kinder im England jener Zeit auswendig lernen mussten. Die Illustrationen schuf John Tenniel, die Übersetzungen stammen von Antonie Zimmermann (Band I) und Walter Brendel (Band II).
