Animal farm
Animal Farm was written by George Orwell and published in 1945. The animals get fed up of their master, Farmer Jones, so they kick him out. Once they are free of the tyrant Jones, life on the farm is good for a while and there is hope for a happier future of less work, better education and more food. However, trouble brews as the pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, fight for the hearts and minds of the other animals on the farm.
This novel is an allegory – even though it is set on a farm and stars a cast of farm animals, it reflects the events of the Russian revolution of 1917. The animals are all clever representations of Russian politicians, voters and workers. Orwell used the novel to make his opinions on Russian leaders heard.
Homage to Catalonia
Homage to Catalonia is George Orwell's account of his experiences and observations fighting for the Republican army during the Spanish Civil War. The war was one of the shaping events on his political outlook and a significant part of what led him to write, in 1946, «Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for Democratic Socialism, as I understand it.»
Burmese Days

As the story opens, U Po Kyin, a corrupt Burmese magistrate, is planning to destroy the reputation of the Indian Dr Veraswami. The doctor's main protection is his friendship with John Flory who, as a pukka sahib (European white man), has higher prestige. Dr Veraswami wants the privilege of becoming a member of the British club because he thinks that if his standing with the Europeans is good, U Po Kyin's intrigues against him will not prevail. U Po Kyin begins a campaign to persuade the Europeans that the doctor holds disloyal, anti-British opinions, and believes anonymous letters with false stories about the doctor «will work wonders»…

Politics and the English language
George Orwell's central argument is that the normalization of bad writing leads to political oppression. Orwell starts with the premise that the distortion of «language» reflects a «corruption» of «civilization.» But Orwell objects to the conclusion he believes readers usually draw from this initial premise. Specifically, Orwell claims that most readers—even those who think language and politics are in a bad state—presume that language is merely a mirror of society. That is, language only reflects the state of the world. Orwell claims language doesn't just reflect the condition society. Language, he argues, also shapes society. He contends that language is both prescriptive and descriptive of civilization's decline.
Animal Farm
Animal Farm is an allegorical novel. It tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer. With flaming idealism and rousing slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice and equality a place where one can live equal, free, and happy. Ultimately, however, the uprising is betrayed and the farm ends up in a state worse than it was before, under the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon. Animal Farm
Animal Farm is an allegorical novel which reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union. Old Major, the old boar on the Manor Farm, summons the animals on the farm together for a meeting, during which he refers to humans as «enemies» and teaches the animals a revolutionary song called «Beasts of England». When Major dies, two young pigs, Snowball and Napoleon, assume command and consider it a duty to prepare for the Rebellion. The animals revolt, driving the drunken, irresponsible farmer Mr Jones, as well as Mrs Jones and the other human caretakers and employees, off the farm, renaming it «Animal Farm». They adopt the Seven Commandments of Animalism, the most important of which is, «All animals are equal».
