Solomon's Ring

Mary Jennifer Payne

In the second book of the Daughters of Light series, the demon-hunted Seers are in a race against time to return a stolen ring. Twin sisters Jade and Jasmine are finally together after a five-year separation, but there’s no time to enjoy the reunion. As Seers, the sisters are being hunted by demons spilling through the rift, and the city is on high alert against terrorist threats. The Protectors at Beaconsfield have gathered as many Seers as possible, as the countries that haven’t been destroyed by climate change are starting to close their borders. On top of it all, Jasmine discovers that someone has stolen a ring with the power to control the demons, and the Final Battle between the Daughters of Light and the forces of darkness is approaching more quickly than anyone predicted.

Ten Decisions

Larry D. Rose

Details the toughest decisions that shaped Canada's role in WWII, whose effects continue to this day. Why Canada went to war, defied Britain by organizing its own air force (and training over 100,000 cadets), pivoted to the U.S., and walked into a disaster in Dieppe. Presents the forgotten history of C.D. Howe, Canada's «Minister for Everything» whose wartime powers were almost unrivaled in Canada. How the Corvette, the «ugly little ship the Royal Canadian Navy didn't want,» became an enduring symbol of victory against all odds in the Battle of the Atlantic. A new look at the key figures of the war, including William Lyon Mackenzie King, Guy Simonds, and Canada's leading commander, General Henry Crerar. Author is a seasoned journalist and popular military history writer, and has an ear for the vivid and an approachable style for the general reader or armchair historian.

Literary Titans Revisited

Группа авторов

Unearthed recordings reveal the early days of the literary powerhouses who gave birth to CanLit in the 1960s. From 1969 to 1970, radio interviewer Earle Toppings recorded sixteen Canadian writers and poets who went on to become pillars of Canadian literature. These emerging icons of Canadian literature, including Margaret Laurence, Sinclair Ross, and Al Purdy, captured in Toppings’s interviews and readings, give intimate and compelling views of their developing prose and poetry, in their own words. The Earle Toppings tapes provide a distinctive and special glimpse into the workshops of emerging CanLit authors, revealing their thoughts about writing, about their successes and failures, about their place in Canada and in Canadian literature. This written version of Toppings’s recordings presents exact transcripts of the spoken interviews, complemented by brief biographies and bibliographies. The interviews were carefully compiled by the inaugural group of four Northrop Frye Research Centre Undergraduate Fellows at Victoria College. This rare portrait would not have been complete without an interview with Mr. Toppings himself, sharing his personal recollections of the authors he recorded and his own insight into their works.
