When the young apprentice Delbit Quint is «bought» by Dr. Faineworth, he arrives in an alternate history version of New York City to help the good doctor with his investigation of «Exxa.» This beautiful young woman had just appeared from nowhere, without clothing, on the streets of Gotham two weeks earlier, her memories of herself and her background completely lost. Семью главного героя Владимира Бутонова жестоко убивает мутант – оборотень в 2004 году, когда ему было 3. Потом продолжают появляться мутанты с разными способностями – от невинных до очень опасных. Вскорости у них появляется лидер, мутант – телепат Виктор Глушков по кличке Президент, который пытается революционным путем захватить власть при помощи армии мутантов; с большим трудом ГРУ удается его убить. Бутонов поступает в МГУ и становиться профессиональным программистом; через несколько лет он изобретает нирвану – новый вид интернета на основе связи ЦНС реципиентов в одну сеть. Он становиться миллиардером и очень скоро решает, используя нирвану воскресить свою умершую сестру, собирая о ней воспоминания и программируя ИИ. В это время кибертехнологии на основе нирваны в своем развитию создают киборгов – новый тип оружия. Бутонов поселяет в кибертело ИИ с личностью своей умершей сестры, но вместо сестры в кибертело вселяется мутант Президент, который при своей смерти передал память о себе всей видимой Вселенной, и, который при помщи нирваны берет под контроль 2 миллиарда человек. У Владимира не остается выбора и он уничтожает нирвану и уничтожает кибертело злого мутанта. Основная идея книги – что прошлое нельзя вернуть и попытка показть новый тип интернета, нейронный интернет, изменивший мир. Книга написан в жанре нанопанк, содержит аллюзии к некоторым современным франшизам, вроде «Люди – икс» и «Мортал Комбат», содержит достаточно много действия и драк при наличие философского контекста. Явная линия политического противостояния лидера мутантов с действующей властью и борьба людей за идеалы Родины и мира. Действие романа пролонгированно во времени от начала двухтысячных до недалекого будущего: показано развитие новых технологий в виде нейронного интернета и создания симбиоза машина – человек. Автор пытался соединить три направления научной фантастики – нанопанк, киберпанк и биопанк, – что тоже должно понравиться читателю.
