    The Lone Star Ranger

    Zane Grey

The Lone Star Ranger takes place in Texas, the Lone Star State, with the famous band of highly capable law enforcement officers known as Texas Rangers. The story follows the life of Buck Duane, son of a famous outlaw and a man who becomes an outlaw himself. Though an outlaw is not always a criminal, if the Rangers say he is an outlaw, it's just as bad – he's a hunted man. After killing a man in self-defense, Duane is forced to 'go on the dodge'. Duane turns up at an outlaw's hideout, still revolting at the idea of outlawry. Worse still, all the men he kills haunt him, for years. At the outlaw hideout, he meets a kidnapped, beautiful young woman and desires to see her free.

    The Adventures of Ken Ward

    Zane Grey

"The Young Forester" follows Ken Ward in his quest to become a forest ranger. After gaining his father's permission to go west to work with a childhood friend, Ken stumbles on a lumbering operation that's stripping the trees and leaving nothing behind. Throughout the book, Ken struggles against the loggers to save Penetier Forest. "The Young Pitcher" continues Ken Ward's story as he goes to college. As a freshman he dreams reams of making the baseball team, but he has to prove himself worth. "The Young Lion Hunter" – After completing his freshman year in college Ken Ward goes West again to find new adventures around the North Rim of Arizona's Grand Canyon. "Ken Ward in the Jungle" – Looking for a change from Arizona desert, Ken Ward and his friend Hal go canoeing and exploring in the jungle south of Mexico, while new adventure awaits as they chart a river.

Riders of the Purple Sage & The Rainbow Trail

    Zane Grey

"Riders of the Purple Sage" tells the story of Jane Withersteen and her battle to overcome persecution by members of her polygamous Mormon fundamentalist church. A leader of the church, Elder Tull, wants to marry her. Withersteen gets help from a number of friends, including Bern Venters and Lassiter, a notorious gunman and killer of Mormons. She struggles with her «blindness» to the evil nature of her church and its leaders, and tries to keep Venters and Lassiter from killing the adversaries who are slowly ruining her. "The Rainbow Trail" takes place ten years after events of Riders of the Purple Sage. The wall to Surprise Valley has broken, and Jane Withersteen is forced to choose between Lassiter's life and Fay Larkin's marriage to a Mormon. The Rainbow Trail contrasts the older Mormons with the rising generation of Mormon women who will not tolerate polygamy and Mormon men who do not seek it.
